You can make soaps as a way to make money or you can make soaps for personal use or as gifts. Keep in mind that soap making can be dangerous, as soaps become very hot when melted during the melt and pour soap making process. Soap making should be fun and entertaining, but it is also important to practice all necessary safety precautions when making soaps. Always wear rubber gloves and eye protection. It is also a good idea to keep your safety equipment on at all times even after you have removed the soap from the mold. This is because melted soap takes a long time to cool. To start making soaps, you have to get to know the basic ingredients in handmade soaps. Handmade soaps are generally made from glycerin. You can buy glycerin soap at your local hobby store. There are many types of glycerin soaps that you can melt and pour into your own handmade soaps. They also have different properties and benefits for your skin. When using the microwave, melt the soap base for one minute in high temperature, stirring in the remaining unmelted soap pieces until those have melted too. If you prefer to use the double broiler, you should first bring the water to a boil then add your soap base of choice to the boiling water, cover the pot and set the fire on low. Keep in mind that this method will take some time. The soap base may take as long as 10 minutes to melt. Stirring occasionally will also ensure an even melt. You can also add some optional ingredients: * You can add fragrance to your soaps. You can buy your choice of fragrance oil in your local hobby store. Keep in mind that the fragrance oil should be completely mixed in so that the soap will not have a cloudy appearance. * You can also add your color preference when making soaps. You can use mica or food coloring for it. When using food coloring, you should start by adding one drop at a time and mixing it thoroughly until you reach your color preference. After the soap base has melted, pour it into individual molds, tray molds, or blocks, which can then be sliced. You can also be creative and design your own soap mold to create soaps of various shapes and sizes. Why Marketing Often Feels Sleazy (and How to Avoid It)

By Mark Silver I was recently teaching marketing to a whole flock of spiritual healers at the University of Spiritual Healing and Sufism. Now, these folks aren’t slouches. Some of them are extremely successful corporate consultants, highly visible doctors used to addressing hundreds of people at conferences, a nationally published spiritual weight-loss expert with a 100,000 clients under her belt, and a variety of other practitioners, all of whom have had a certain amount of success on their own. Yet, even these folks, many of them, when confronted with trying to fill their own workshops we assigned them for homework, have been stumbling. “How do you create marketing that can possibly explain spiritual healing in a way that will attract people in?” It’s a good question. But… The truth is: you can’t. No description of what you do can ever do it justice, and it certainly can’t attract people in. But that’s okay, because your marketing language isn’t there to attract people in. So forget about trying to attract people with your words. I’ll tell you what you will be doing with your words, in just a minute. First, understand that the main attractor of your business isn’t even directly visible, because it’s the Jewel in your heart. I know it sounds woo-woo, but haven’t you had days in your business when you felt great, full, generous, and business flowed in seemingly out ofthe blue? And haven’t you had days when you did everything “right” but you felt a little off, and nothing seemed to work? That’s your Jewel in action (or inaction). Your Jewel is the unique quality in your heart that makes you, and your business, magnetically attractive. An example from one of my workshops: a participant sunk into her Jewel through my guided exercise “Unveiling Your Jewel.” When she ‘clunked’ into it in her heart (you know that feeling -clunk- when you are in yourself deeply), and spoke from there, we all felt tears in our eyes. I looked around the room and everyone was on the edge of their seats listening, rapt, physically leaning towards her, and ready to buy and send her referrals. And she hadn’t spoken one word of “sales” pitch. Nice, huh? So what are the words for? The words are there to create safety. Here’s the process: Someone feels the truth and guidance in their heart to do something- take your workshop, buy your oatmeal, hire you for the job. What happens next? That’s right, they doubt themselves. When have you ever trusted your heart on a big decision right off the bat? If you are like me, it’s fairly rare. First I get a hit “Yes, that’s right.” Then I think about it and doubt myself, “Maybe I’m not right.” Then I come to a decision. If I feel safe enough to trust my guidance, I say Yes, and if I don’t, I say No. Marketing without the Jewel can feel manipulative, and “attractive” words often feel sleazy if your heart isn’t present. But, your Jewel solo without the safety of a solid marketing message means that your customers will melt away. Connect to your own unique Jewel. Then craft your marketing message to help your best prospects feel seen and safe, so they can trust the natural attraction in their heart. Your marketing? Keys to Safety Marketing: The biggest thing that creates safety in any situation is when someone trusts that you know who they are. If you don’t know them personally, the next best step is to identify the Who and What of your target market:Who: Demographic (observable characteristic) plusPsychographic (belief or internal identity)What: The problem Example: Homeowners (demographic) who care about the environment (psychographic) who want a beautiful garden that doesn’t take a huge amount of water to keep alive. A brand-new landscape designer who used a line very similar to this in a party left that evening with three new clients, effortlessly. Her Jewel was attractive- the Who and What helped them feel safe enough to hire her. Answering unasked questions Put yourselves in the shoes of the prospect, and see things from their perspective. Then, list all the questions that would come up for them about your own business. You may be surprised that issues that seem very tangential to your product or service may be very important. For instance, in an ad for a yoga studio, it never made clear what to wear to the first class. Do you think someone might not drop-in as a new yoga participant because they don’t want to look foolish in front of the other Yogis and Yoginas? Answer as many of these questions as possible in your marketing materials, to help people feel safe. Tell people what happens after they buy. Asking people to buy, without telling them what will happen next, is kind of like leading someone up to the door of a party where they don’t know a soul, and asking them to open the door and step inside. No way! First, I want to know who is on the other side of the door, what kind of a party is it, is there food, is it formal or informal? Is it a birthday party and is a gift expected? Without these answers, most people, feeling even slightly shy, won’t open the door. These are just a few pointers, but put into action, along with your connection to your Jewel, and you will have a lot more people feeling safe enough to buy from you. Equal Partners in Marriage?

No partnership is exactly equal because the issues are so complicated that it is impossible to figure out their relative values. But the degree of respect each partner gives to the other can be pretty close to equal with a little care and love. There is almost always a division of labor. Some decisions will have more to do with the needs and interests of one partner than the other. Even then the decisions should not be to the disadvantage of the other. All decisions should be open to discussion and input of both partners on an equal basis so that neither partner is ever considered inferior or less important to the relationship. There should never be any bullying. This is especially true if one is the major breadwinner. That dont make you the boss. Some people are more clever at arguing than others. If one of you is such a person, you will need to exert extra care not to take advantage of your partner. Just because you can win does not mean you have the right to. Sometimes decisions involve moral issues, logical matters, cultural preferences, personal likes and dislikes. These are the hard ones to be fair about. These are the ones that lead to crazy fights that no one knows the cause of. Afterwards you both feel stupid, or at least you feel the other person is stupid. When you get involved in one of these irrational fights, it is a good idea to have a prearranged signal word. (My favorite is bananas). When one of you comes to her senses long enough to realize it is time to say the word, do it and it will take the air out of the balloon safely instead of having it pop in your face, and you can start fresh with a better perspective. Contracts and agreements may be symbols of mistrust, but you can make sure that you both understand that you wish to be equal partners and that your are both committed to working hard at it. If you have never taken assertiveness training, doing so, together, before you get married, is the best wedding present you could give yourselves. Of course not… that kind of stuff only happens to me… right? A year or so ago if someone asked me what I did, I*d have gone into my ten-second-elevator speech. Some people were interested and said they*d heard about what I did, some dismissed it and occasionally, I picked up a client. More recently I began to define myself more clearly. Then I redefined my coaching practice. Then I found a new way of introducing myself. What I found was the more I honed in one specific purpose of my business the more interested people became in me and in what I did. Here is a quick example for you. A local insurance broker once brokered over 120 policies to ensure they were competitive. Then one day they slashed the policies they sold down to just 26. The result? They increased sales by 40%. By getting specific, really knowing yourself, your product and its purpose in the market place you come over with greater clarity. That clarity brings greater congruency to your message. Congruency gets people to buy from you. If your business is not getting clients, then pinpoint what you do first then consider my second suggestion. The day before something big happened in my business life I had coached a client, invoiced my corporate clients and generally tidied my admin. I*m glad that the day had been quiet because the next day a storm of sales hit. A friend sent a multi-fax to her staff advertising my new workshop. Based on past perceptions of advertising my expectation was a zero to minor response. As you can tell I was mentally unprepared for a deluge of calls. My phone rang all day long. Essentially I filled a workshop in that one day just based on that one advert and within a month I had coached more people than ever before. But what was the secret? Was it the way the advert sold it too them using slick words and phrases? Certainly not. The secret lay deeper than that. The secret was this: I now knew clearly what I wanted to do. I thought I was clear. I was a coach. I coached people. Health, fitness, jobs, relationships, finances… you name it I coached it. What I learned was that, that isn*t enough. The definition had to be clearer than *coach*. The workshops I designed now help people discover clarity in who they are, what they do and how they do it. Basically they are designed so people can put real purpose into what they do. When you mean it, you make things happen! It*s simple… if you want to spend more time working with clients as opposed to finding them then get clear on who you are, what you do and how you do it. My third point is about, clarity, clarity, clarity. When I created clarity I set out with an intention. When I move that intention forward each day I create momentum. Every small action I take each day over a sustained period just builds up, like a giant ball of snow rolling down a mountainside. Think about this. The best sales people are the best because they are clear on their product. They are also clear on who they are and how they best sell to people. Other sales people, the ones who don*t know their product, and don*t seem congruent are more like confidence tricksters. You can fool some of your prospects, but you can*t fool them all. Everything we want is out there somewhere. All we have to do is put out the right signals and make the right noises. May I suggest to you that if you are not succeeding getting your business to as many clients, or the right clients, then it is all to do with your clarity and very little to do with anything else. I*m sure you*ve found what I*ve been talking about isn*t rocket science. There is no whizzy initiative. There is magic though, and that happens when you are completely clear on who and what you are. Define who you are - your values, identity and purpose Define what you want to offer. Get really specific on what your business is about and make sure it*s congruent with who you are. Define who you want as your clients. Their age, employment status, demographics, etc. With these steps done you should now be able to hone in to your target market and approach your prospective clients communicating clearly that you have designed your service specifically for them.
